OBTAINING A COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE AND ENDORSEMENTS
In order to drive certain types of commercial vehicles, a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required by the federal government. Our 10-week truck driving program trains students for the Class A CDL, which allows drivers to operate combination vehicles with a combined average weight of over 26,001 pounds.
Once CDL is obtained, individuals can also apply for additional CDL endorsements for specific industries like hazardous materials, school bus or passenger vehicles, or tank vehicles.
In order to be eligible for obtaining a CDL, individuals have to meet certain eligibility requirements based on current state and federal guidelines. Our facility is an Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) certified facility.
At the beginning of the CDL program, students who pass the CDL permit test will move forward into the driving portion of the course. Upon completing the required hours of on-the-road training, students will then take the CDL test. If a student passes the test and receives a CDL, they will then be eligible to apply for Class A CDL positions.

JOB OUTLOOK FOR CDL TRUCK DRIVERS?
The primary role of a truck driver is to transport goods from one location to another on short routes or longer treks across states or even the entire country.
Currently, there is a shortage of CDL drivers across the United States. This shortage has created a unique opportunity for individuals to pursue a career in this industry. Because many employers seek quality drivers with job-ready skills, our graduates have a good chance of transitioning seamlessly from the truck driving program to a career with many opportunities. Although employment is not guaranteed, Rosedale Tech graduates are in high demand.
With a CDL, students who complete the program can pursue a job in multiple industries that include driving large vehicles and trucks, including but not limited to:
- Long-haul truck drivers
- Local truck drivers
- Delivery truck drivers
- Dump truck drivers
- Van drivers
- Tractor-trailer drivers
Depending on the endorsements students add to their CDL, graduates may also pursue careers driving passenger vans, hazardous materials, or other specialized CDL positions.

Truck driving is no easy task and is not for everyone. It requires someone with the skills, work ethic, physical capability, and right personality to fit the various positions. While over-the-road positions offer drivers an opportunity to see parts of the country they may not have visited before, it can require long hours alone and extended periods of time away from home. Local delivery positions may allow for someone to work a regular schedule and be home during the evenings, but may also require good customer service skills as they may be engaging with customers during their delivery routes.

Our program takes students on the road with our real-world training for truck drivers. Throughout the course, students gain pre-trip and on-the-road experience driving manual transmission trucks.

Financial Aid Options
Financial aid is available to those who qualify.
Worried about how to pay for school? Many of our students qualify for some type of financial assistance. We offer a process that pairs accepted students with a financial aid coordinator to help customize a financial aid plan that may include eligible grants, loans, and other awards. We will also assist with the application for federal financial aid.
We are proud to support members of the military community as they transition back to civilian life. Our financial aid team includes members who are VA certified and can help military students navigate their military benefits for education.
