Rosedale Tech Partners with Mazda Motor of America

In an effort to fill the skills gap and increase the supply of skilled automotive technicians both in Western Pennsylvania and nationwide, Rosedale Technical College, a 501(c)(3) non-profit nationally recognized higher education institution, has entered into a partnership with Mazda Motor of America (Mazda) to offer a manufacturer-specific certification training program within its current automotive programs.  The three-year partnership is effective immediately with certification training set to begin in August 2019.

“What Mazda is doing is a huge opportunity for the automotive industry and aligns perfectly with our strategic plan moving forward into the future of technical training,” said Dennis Wilke, President of Rosedale Tech.

“When we were first approached by Mazda on this collaboration our first question was – what is the benefit to our students?  Mazda is partnering with Rosedale to generously provide a package to students who graduate from Rosedale with a Mazda certification that includes tuition reimbursement, tool allowances, employee discounts on Mazda vehicle purchases and the support of a one-on-one mentor during their employment at a Mazda dealership.”

This opportunity is optional for students enrolled in Rosedale Tech’s automotive programs to participate in and shows Rosedale’s commitment to raising the standards of the trades by partnering with other organizations for the betterment of the students.

As Mazda’s sales continue to increase year after year, the automaker sees a 30% shortage of technicians in their brand’s service centers throughout the country.  Fearing the consequences of not actively trying to find a resolution to this shortage of skilled technicians, Mazda has structured the market based pilot program with Rosedale Tech in collaboration with the Greater Pittsburgh Automobile Dealers Association to specifically recruit and train individuals for brand certified technician positions in one of the regional Mazda dealerships.  Mazda’s overall goal is to begin this type of certification training program at other technical schools nationwide.

As part of the partnership, Rosedale Tech has agreed to recruit interested individuals for the Mazda training program who are entering the college’s automotive associate in specialized technology degree and diploma programs.  In return, Mazda will train Rosedale Tech instructors to teach the certification, as well as provide the college with Mazda vehicles, tools, parts, and other resources to use throughout the certification training program.  Upon graduating, the technician will have the knowledge and certifications to begin working for a Mazda dealership.
